When my 13-month old son had his first anaphylactic reaction, my life changed. While he was still experiencing the lingering symptoms of the reaction, I was feeling utter helplessness. I felt helpless at easing his immediate discomfort. I felt even more helpless in protecting him from the potential dangers that lurked in every cookie, cake and candy bar.
In the following months, I would learn more than I ever wanted to know about food allergies. My best teachers were other parents, who gladly shared their knowledge and advice. But what I was looking for (other than a treatment and cure), was something that would give me back my confidence in being able to keep him safe.
I wanted everyone to know that he had food allergies so that well-meaning people didn't accidentally give him an allergen. I wanted someone to know what to do in case a reaction occurred when I wasn't around. I wanted an alert product that was practical and appropriate for a child his age. When I couldn't find one, I decided to create one myself.
The idea turned into my passion and my mission: to give peace of mind to parents of young children with food allergies by providing effective alert products especially for toddlers.
That's how Check My Tag began.
