Storing Your Auto-injector in the Heat of Summer
I posted an item about this last summer but it bears repeating again as the temperatures rise. Both Epi-Pen and Twinject advise that their products be stored away from direct sunlight, in a cool place. That's a little challenging when you are at a park, playground or pool for an extended period of time. Note that the autoinjectors cannot be too cold either, because this has been known to cause malfunctions in the triggering device. What we have done is gotten in the habit of carrying Tanner's autoinjector in the med pouch in his insulated lunchbox, along with a small ice pack. The med pouch insulates the pen from the ice pack but the whole arrangement keeps the autoinjector at just the right temperature. In addition to our own product, there are a variety of other autoinjector cases that would work for this purpose. And then, since we have the lunchbox with us anyway, I stash a water bottle and an emergency safe snack (like fruit leathers or an allergen-free cookie) in the upper compartment too. Note the Jeeto sticker that I keep in the pocket!
